WVC beat North Idaho 53-44

The Wenatchee Valley College Lady Knights basketball team defended its home floor last night with a 53-44 win over North Idaho. Cariann Kunkel and Chasity Spady each had 14-points to lead WVC. The Lady Knights improved to 9-and-3 in East Conference play and remain a half-game back of 2nd place Yakima Valley and 3-games behind 1st place Walla Walla.

Chance Michels’ 3-pointer at the buzzer wasn’t enough last night for the Wenatchee Valley men, who fell to North Idaho 79-78. The Knights had the lead with 2:35 remaining in the second half, but couldn’t hold it as the Cardinals won their 11th straight game. Michels finished with 17-points while Abdul Abdullah had 13 for Wenatchee Valley. The Knights remain in 3rd place in the NWAACC East at 8-and-4, 20-and-5 overall.

Men's College Basketball Schedule

On the men’s schedule tonight, the Huskies play at USC at 6 on ESPN2. Central Washington is at Alaska-Fairbanks at 7. Eastern hosts Idaho at 7:45. And tonight at 8 on the Pac-12 Network, Washington State plays at UCLA.

In the Central Washington B League Tournament, Oroville edged Manson 56-51 to end the Trojan’s season. Liberty Bell topped Bridgeport 61-60 to end the Mustang’s season.

In the CWAC District Tournament, Ellensburg beat Ephrata 56-50.

In the first round of the Central Washington 2-B District Tournament, Bridgeport plays at Brewster and Lake Roosevelt hosts Tonasket at 6 o’clock. On the boy’s side tonight, Entiat and Moses Lake Christian tip at 7:30.

Wenatchee Wild Hockey Schedule

Wenatchee hosts Vernon tomorrow night at 7:05 on Wild Love Date Night on Valentine’s Day. Then on Saturday, it’s Fan Appreciation Night with the first 1,000 through the door getting the new Walt bobblehead doll. The game features Wenatchee and Chilliwack at 7:05.

With 5-games remaining on the schedule, Wenatchee could still position itself with home-ice advantage. The Wild enter the weekend just with just three points separating themselves in 5th place and 3rd place in the Interior Division.

Taijuan Walker is back with Mariners

The 27-year old free agent signed a one-year Major League contract with will get a shot at a starting role with his former club. Walker was dealt to the Arizona Diamondbacks three years ago.

Walker comes in after the club placed reliever Austin Adams on the 60-day injured list. Adams is recuperating from surgery on his left knee after tearing his ACL on the final road trip last season.
