A stranded woman was arrested earlier this week near Malaga after two hunters returned to camp and found her rummaging through their belongings. The Wenatchee World reports the hunters found 32-year old Christa Knopf with a backpack belonging to one of the men filled with gear from his tent which included a GPS unit, flashlights, headlamp, video camera, stocking caps, hand-warming packets, a coffee cup and food.
The equipment was valued at about $1,700-dollars. The report also said Knopf took truck keys from the tent and entered a truck, taking four credit cards. The camp was located near Colockum Pass Road and Naneum Ridge Road in Kittitas County. Chelan County Sheriff’s Deputies also found methamphetamine, heroin and needles in a bag belonging to Knopf. She was charged with second-degree theft, first-degree criminal trespassing, second-degree vehicle prowl, and four counts of theft of an access device. Drug charges are pending.
