Wildfire in Douglas County leads to Level 2 evacuation notices

A wildfire fire has burned at least 2,000 acres and forced the closure of McNeil Canyon and Highway 172 in Douglas County.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has ordered Level 2 evacuation notices for some areas and said outbuildings have been burned but no residences at this time.

The Road 11 Fire was first reported shortly after 3 p.m. and about a half hour later a shift in winds led it to jump Highway 172, leading to the evacuation notices.

Level 2 indicates there is a high probability of a need to evacuate.

Numerous agencies have responded to the fire and they are asking people to avoid the area.

Level 2 Evacuation notices were issued for homes from Road B N.W. up to and including Road 10 N.W.

McNeil Canyon Rd was been closed at the request of Fire Command due to heavy traffic. There is currently estimated time of reopening.

Earlier, Level 2 Evacuation notices were issued for the area south of McNeil Canyon Rd and Level 1 notices for homes north of McNeil Canyon Rd. between Road C N.W. and the top of McNeil Canyon Road up to Road 20 N.W.

Highway 172 has been closed at Road B N.E. due to a shift in wind and fire direction.
