Wild Split Mini-Games with Trail 2-2

WENATCHEE, WA – The Wenatchee Wild hosted Trail in a series of mini-games this weekend at the Community Rink…
Trail won the opener of the two, two-period games Saturday night 3-nil…
But the Wild came back in the nightcap, winning 3-0 behind goals from Mat Gosiewski, Murphy Stratton and Lucas Sowder.

The two teams met again Sunday with very similar results…
Trail came out and shut the Wild out in game 1 2-nothing. Then in the late game…
Wenatchee came from behind with goals by Hunter Hastings and Josh Arnold to come away with a 2-1 victory. Austin Park went oh-for-two in the games he played over the weekend while the Wild’s other net-minder, Cal Sandquist, went two and oh. The Wild will host Penticton Friday night at 7 in the Community Rink in one more, regular-style, 3-period exhibition game before beginning the regular season at Vernon September 7th.

Russell Wilson finished 11-of-21 for 118 yards. Chris Carson scored a 1st half touchdown as Seattle went into the break with a 10-6 lead. Sebastian Janikowski connected on field goals of 35 and 55 yards while punter Michael Dickson showed his thunder foot and incredible accuracy, punting 5 times with a 53.6 yard average.

Even though Seattle came up short on the scoreboard, Coach Pete Carroll was very pleased about the progression of his team…

Paul Goldschmidt’s 3-run home run capped a 5-run third inning and the D-Backs went on for the 5-2 victory. Trailing 5-1 in the 9th, Seattle got the bases loaded with nobody out but could only manage to push across one run.

Mitch Haniger led the way offensively, going 2-for-5 with a run. Mike Leake took the loss, going 6-innings and allowing 5-runs on 7-hits with 6 strikeouts.

The Mariners have the day off today before beginning a quick, two game series at San Diego tomorrow at 7:10 with Felix Hernandez facing the Padre’s Jacob Nix.

Houston Wins 5th In a Row, Lead A’s in West

Matt Chapman led Oakland with two home runs as the A’s took two of three from Minnesota by a score of 6-2 Sunday. Oakland remains 5-games in front of Seattle for the final Wild Card playoff spot.

Houston has now won five straight after the Astros polished off a three-game sweep of the Angels Sunday with a 3-1 win. Framber Valdez and three relievers combined on a 4-hitter. The Astros lead Oakland by a game-and-a-half in the A-L West.

Steven Duggar’s 2-run triple broke a 1-1 tie and San Francisco topped the Rangers 3-1.
