Wild Face Saints for Doyle Cup, EHS Sweeps

WENATCHEE, WA – The Wenatchee Wild now know their opponent for the next round of the playoffs…
Wenatchee will face the Spruce Grove Saints for the Doyle Cup beginning Friday night at the Town Toyota Center. A suburb of Edmonton, Alberta, Spruce Grove won the inaugural Inter Pipeline Cup Friday by downing Okotoks 3-2 in Game 5 to claim the Alberta Junior Hockey League Championship. Game 1 of the best-of-seven series between the Wild and Saints is Friday night at 7:05. Game 2 will be Saturday at 7:05. If the teams split the first two games, Game 3 would be Sunday at the Town Toyota Center. If either team wins both Friday and Saturday, the series shifts to Spruce Grove Tuesday. A Sunday game in Wenatchee means a Game 4 in Alberta on Wednesday.

Eastmont Soccer Sweeps Season Series of Wenatchee

Let’s turn to the Les Schwab Prep Scoreboard from the weekend…
First, in soccer, the Eastmont Wildcats hosted the Wenatchee Panthers Friday at Wildcat Stadium. We had the game LIVE on the NCWLIFE Channel with Sebastian Moraga and Ed Navarro with the play-by-play….

So Eastmont takes the season sweep of Wenatchee and climbs to the 4th ranked team in the state with the victory. Also on Saturday, Brewster blanked Cashmere 2-nil while Bridgeport edged Manson 2-1.

Eastmont and Wenatchee Sweep Baseball Challengers

In high school baseball Friday…

Eastmont swept Davis 7-0 and 5-2 to improve to 7-5 in Big 9 play…good enough for fourth place. Wenatchee bounced back from its Tuesday loss with a doubleheader sweep of West Valley 6-5 and 5-2. The Panthers are tied with Moses Lake for first in the Big 9, each with 10-and-2 records. We’ll feature the first of three games between Wenatchee and Moses Lake tomorrow from Rec. Park on the NCWLIFE Channel…so a big week coming up for the Panthers.

On Saturday, Chelan swept two from Cascade while Okanogan and Cashmere split a twin-bill. Liberty Bell doubled up on Waterville-Mansfield.

On the Les Schwab Prep Softball Scoreboard…
Eastmont swept Davis 1-0 and 16-6 Friday. Wenatchee had no trouble dispatching West Valley 24-8 and 15-3. The Panthers are still undefeated in Big 9 play at 12-0 and play three against also undefeated Moses Lake this week.

On Saturday, Chelan and Nooksack Valley split a doubleheader. Okanogan beat up on Cashmere in two games while Liberty Bell swept a pair from Waterville-Mansfield.

On the Prep Schedule for today…
The Big 9 boys golf teams will gather and Three Lakes Golf Course in Malaga today for their 5th POD of the season. Tee time in the shotgun start is at 1 o’clock this afternoon.

Mariners Fall at Texas Despite Hanniger Heroics

Despite Mitch Hanniger going 3-for-5 with a 2-run home run, the Mariners fell at Texas  Sunday 7-4 to the Rangers…
Erasmo Ramirez took the loss for Seattle, going 4-and-2/3rds innings, allowing 5-runs on 5-hits including two home runs. Sunday’s loss followed wins by the Mariners on Friday (6-2) and Saturday (9-7) to improve Seattle’s record to 11-9, good enough for third in the American League West behind Houston and Los Angeles. Seattle begins a three game series in Chicago today against the White Sox with Mile Leake facing Miguel Gonzalez. First pitch is at 5:10.
