West Cashmere Bridge work will close night traffic on Highway 2 starting next week

Workers install horitzontal steel girders across the rail line south of Highway 2 near Cashmere. The work is part of the ongoing $25.5 million West Cashmere Bridge replacement project, to carry traffic onto Goodwin Road.

CASHMERE — Things are getting serious on the West Cashmere Bridge project.

On Wednesday night, contractors installed steel girders across the railroad tracks that run parallel to Highway 2 outside Cashmere. Next Thursday, Sept. 16, Chelan County Public Works says the highway will shut down overnight to allow similar girder work above Highway 2 itself.

More nighttime shutdowns are likely to follow Sept. 20-22. From 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. those nights, motorists will be directed to a one-lane bypass road. Delays may be up to 20 minutes, depending on traffic.
