WENATCHEE – The Wenatchee Wild certainly made the most of their first homestand of the season, completing the weekend sweep of the visiting Prince George Spruce Kings on Saturday night by a score of 8-1.
On a night where the first Wild goal would prompt a barrage of diapers and childrens undies tossed to the ice for charity, fans didn’t have to wait long for the opportunity. At 5:33 Troy Conzo fired a wrister from the right circle high over the blocker of Tavin Grant for the 1-0 lead. Conzo added a second goal at 16:34 on a blast from the left wing, assisted by Brian Williams and Tyler Rockwell and Wenatchee led 2-0 after 1.
Prince George hung around to keep it interesting when Hunter Luhmann put back a rebound chance at 4:52 of the second period to make it 2-1, but just over a minute later a Brian Williams power play goal reclaimed the two goal edge, with helpers from Charlie Combs and Logan Milliken. At 10:56, Combs added to his league high goal total (11), set up Brendan Harris and Dakota Raabe. Just over two minutes later, Harris made a nice move behind the net to set up Sam Morton for his second goal in as many nights and Wenatchee led 5-1 after two periods.
Matthew Baker buried his fifth of the year at 1:26 of the third, with assists going to Colin Burston and Slava Demin. Burston would follow with a goal of his own at 13:42 from Baker and Raabe, and for good measure, Troy Conzo collected his second hat trick of the season at 17:12 when Lucas Sowder set him up with a nice pass on a 2-on-1 rush for the final 8-1 margin.
Brendan Harris and Troy Conzo continued their streaks of getting a point in every game, while Charlie Combs and Colin Burston extended their goal streaks to five straight games. Garrett Nieto collected the win with 17 saves.
Wenatchee (8-0-1-0) closes out their homestand going 4-0-0, and outscoring their guests 28-7. Next weekend the Wild travel to face Coquitlam on Saturday and Surrey on Sunday afternoon.
