Wenatchee Valley College hosted a fountain fishing derby in its fountain Wednesday. The event drew hundreds of students, faculty and the public vying to catch a trout.

The person who catches the largest trout will win a Go Pro Camera. The annual event missed last year, but was back thanks to the Association Students of Wenatchee Valley College.

Marco Gonzales pitched 7-innings today with little run support in a 2-1 loss. Marco gave up 1 earned run on 7-hits with 3 strikeouts. Hunter Pence went 2-for-4 for the Rangers with a solo home run in the 7th.

Seattle had two runners aboard in both the 8th and 9th innings but could not get the tying run across the plate.

Rangers top Mariners 5-3

Milone went 5-innings, allowing 2-runs on 3-hits with 5-strikeouts. But Rangers starter Lance Lynn was dominant, striking out 11-Seattle hitters in his 7-innings to earn his 6th win of the season.

Seattle is off until Friday when it will try to snap its 3-game losing streak against Oakland. Wade LeBlanc will start against the A’s Daniel Mengden at 7:07.

Seattle sends Gordon and Healy to 10-day Injured List

In some off-the-field Mariner news, Seattle put second baseman Dee Gordon and 3rd baseman Ryon Healy on the 10-day injured list. Gordon is sidelined with a wrist contusion since being hit by a pitch May 9th. Healy is out with lower back inflammation.

Rookie second baseman Shed Long was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and got his first Major League hit last night. Utilityman Dylan Moore was also activated off the I-L to help in the infield.

Mark Canha hit a pinch-hit, two-run home run and Jurickson Profar hit a solo shot to lead Oakland past Cleveland 5-to-3.

Justin Verlander threw an 8-inning, 1-hitter with 12-strikeouts as Houston beat the White Sox 5-1. Verlander is now 8-and-1 on the season.

Marwin Gonzalez went 2-for-5 with a 2-run home run and 3-RBI’s to lead Minnesota past the Angels 8-to-3.

Athletic Director Pat Chun made the announcement yesterday. The Cougars are 11-39-and-1 this season and will miss the post-season for the 9th consecutive year. Chun said it was time for new direction.

At the 4-A Boys Championships at The Creek at Qualchan Golf Course in Spokane, only Wenatchee’s Trey Stegeman made the cut with a first-round 81. He shot 84 today to finish tied for 45th.

Eastmont’s Emilee Wentworth had a nice first round 86. She shot a second-round 92 today to finish at 178, tied for 34th.

Again, just one-area golfer was able to advance to the second round. Chelan’s Miles Grossberg shot a first round 84 yesterday to tie for 18th. He followed that up with a second-round 79 today for a 163, tied for 18th.

Chelan’s Kaylin Boykin made the cut after a first-round 96 yesterday. She followed that up with another 96 today to finish 192, tied for 38th.
