Seattle Players in Clubhouse Fight, Lose

After splitting with the A’s over the weekend in Oakland, Seattle was desperately needing a sweep of the lowly Baltimore Orioles to have any chance of making the playoffs. That hope seems to be dwindling as players apparently got into a clubhouse scuffle before last night’s game with Baltimore. On the field, the Mariners bullpen squandered a 1-nothing lead by allowing four runs in the top of the 4th and the O’s went on for the 5-3 win…
Adam Warren gave up three runs on three hits, including a solo home run in the 7th to blow the safe and take the loss. It spoiled a great outing for Wade LeBlanc, who went 6 innings of scoreless ball on 6-hits with 4 strikeouts.

While manager Scott Servais would not talk about the pre-game scuffle in the clubhouse, he thought his team would show some fire on the field…

Baltimore’s Alex Cobb allowed just the home run to Robinson Cano in six innings to earn his 5th win against 15 losses. Servais said he was disappointed in the 7th inning and the continuing problem with his team is not generating enough offense…

The two teams play the rubber match of the three game set tonight at 7:10 as Seattle’s Mike Leake will face Baltimore’s Andrew Cashner.

Mariners Miss Chance to Climb in Race

Seattle’s loss last night really stings considering Oakland fell at the hands of the Yankees as we head to the Les Schwab Scoreboard…
Luke Voit homered for the third-consecutive game, hitting a solo shot off the A’s Fernando Rodney as New York rallied for a 5-1 win. The Yankee’s lead in the Wild Card race is 4-and-a-half-games over Oakland while the A’s lead over Seattle for the final Wild Card spot is still 5-and-a-half games.

Houston’s lead in the American League West is now 3-and-a-half games after the Astros downed Minnesota 5-to-2. Justin Verlander earned his 14th win, striking out 8 over 7-innings.

Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre homered to back Mike Minor on the mound as Texas beat the Angels 4-2.

Earl Thomas Ends Holdout with Seahawks

All Pro free safety Early Thomas reportedly ended his holdout today and reported to the Seahawks training facility in Renton…
In a Tweet to his followers, Thomas said, “I worked my whole life for this…I’ve never let me teammates, city or fans down as long as I’ve lived and don’t plan on starting this weekend.”

According to coach Pete Carroll, Thomas went through a morning walk through and practiced this afternoon. His playing status for Sunday’s season-opener at Denver is in question as the team will need to gauge his conditioning and readiness prior to making that decision.

Thomas held out of off-season workouts and training camp, demanding a new contract extension. The team refused and reportedly entertained trade offers without finding an attractive suitor. To this point, the Seahawks had planned on starting Tedric Thompson at free safety.
