The City of Wenatchee is moving forward with the sale of a parcel of property on North Wenatchee Avenue to Hooked on Toys.
The retailer will be relocating its store from its current location to the new one-acre property previously occupied by Northwest Wholesalers behind State Farm insurance.
The city is selling the 73,000-square-foot parcel for about $1.2 million.
The deal hinges on an environmental study and the planned extension of McKittrick Street across Wenatchee Avenue next year.
Mayor Frank Kuntz said the sale is a good deal for the city and Hooked on Toys.
“It will be a good addition to Smitty’s and those folks in that area,” Kuntz said.
Efforts to talk with Hooked on Toys about moving their store were unsuccessful Friday.
The visibility of the store will be improved when it moves from its current location, just south of the new site.
It also will be easier to access, with a stoplight planned for the intersection of McKitrick and North Wenatchee Avenue.
The City first bought the property as part of its North Wenatchee Avenue redevelopment.
Those included the McKittrick street extension and construction of Columbia Street. The Hooked on Toys property sale is expected to close in January.
