Wenatchee Labor Force Update: Non-Farm job growth on the rise

WENATCHEE- In a recent presentation and labor market report to area partners, Don Meseck, Regional Labor Economist for the Washington State Employment Security Department says the pace of total non-farm job growth in the Wenatchee Statistical Area accelerated throughout 2017.

The local unemployment rate fell from 6.0 percent in 2016 to 5.1 percent in 2017, the lowest average annual reading in the Wenatchee area since electronic records were implemented by our agency in 1990.

Total non-farm employment averaged 44,900 in 2017, up by 800 jobs and 1.7 percent since 2017.

Job growth in 2017 was strong in construction (up 8.6 percent) and in health services (up 3.9 percent). But, job growth was negative in trade, transport, and warehousing (down 1.7 percent) and in manufacturing (down 2.0 percent).
