WENATCHEE- Washington State’s Special Olympics Winter Games took place over the past weekend. The annual event has earned the reputation of being Wenatchee’s biggest sporting event of the year.
With over 1,100 athletes and over 700 volunteers, its easy to understand why. Friday night was the opening ceremony at the Town Toyota Center, which featured the parade of athletes, lighting of the torch and the Athletes Oath.
The rest of the weekend, competition ramped up as these athletes took to the slopes at Mission Ridge, went head to head on the hardwood in basketball and danced on the ice in figure skating.
