Wenatchee falls to Kennedy Catholic 49-20

Wenatchee started strong but faded in the 3rd quarter Friday and fell in its first-round State 4A playoff game to Kennedy Catholic 49-20. NCWLIFE Channel Sports Director Eric Granstrom has the story…

The night looked promising to start for the Panthers against #1 Kennedy Catholic, as Johnny Amezcua picked off a tipped ball from Sam Huard and returned it to the Lancer 23-yard line. 3-plays later, Camden Sirmon hit Riley Kunz for an 11-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was blocked but Wenatchee led 6-nothing.

It didn’t take long for Kennedy Catholic to get on the board, as they took the next possession 72-yards on 8-plays as Huard found Reed Shumpert on a 34-yard touchdown pass to put the Lancers up 7-6.

Huard would again strike on KC’s next possession, hitting Junior Alexander on a 9-yard touchdown pass to go up 14-6 at half.

Lancers explode for 28 in 3rd quarter

The third quarter was all Kennedy Catholic, as big Shav’ell Smalls capped a 10-play, 72-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to put the Lancers up 21-6.

After a three-and-out by Wenatchee, Huard would again go up top for a 33-yard touchdown pass to Alexander to extend the lead to 28-6.

Later in the 3rd, Huard found Alexander yet again on an 18-yard touchdown pass to go up 35-6.

The Panthers would counter, however, with a pass out in the flat from Huard that was a live ball. Jax Tucker had the heads-up play to scoop it up and score to make it 35-13.

An on-sides kick attempt gave Kennedy Catholic great field position, which they capitalized on with a 3-yard touchdown scamper by Huard to make it 42-13.

Both teams would score once more for the final of 49-20. Nate Blauman finished his Panther career with 19-carries for 80-yards and a touchdown. It was the seniors that came first to mind afterwards with Coach Scott Devereaux.
