Wenatchee Falls in World Series Opener 10-1

PHENIX CITY, ALABAMA – The Wenatchee 12-U Cal Ripken Major 60 team had a rough start to the World Series in Phenix City, Alabama this morning, falling to the host team 10-to-1.

Next up for Wenatchee is the Virginia State Champs this evening and then China tomorrow.

Wenatchee held a 3-2 lead until the 8th when Port Angeles put together a rally, scoring 3-runs in the frame off AppleSox reliever Nick Seamons. The good news for Wenatchee fans hoping for a playoff push for the local team is that Yakima Valley lost to Victoria last night 6-5, so the ‘Sox are still 3-and-a-half games out of first place.

Corvallis scored 4 in the 1st inning and held on to beat Bend 8-5 to sweep the three game series.

Michael Peterson allowed just one hit in seven innings to lead Walla Walla to a 2-0 win over visiting Kelowna.

Michael McLain was 2-for-4 with 3-RBI’s to lead Bellingham to an 11-1 win over Cowlitz to complete the three-game series sweep of the Bears.

Victoria came from behind to knock off Yakima Valley 6-5 at Yakima County Stadium.
And in a non-league game, Augie Sylk and two relievers combined on a 3-hit shutout of Gresham as the Portland Pickles swept 12-nothing.

It was the bullpen that faltered, as Juan Nicasio gave up a 2-run home run to Morales in the 7th inning. The loss dropped Seattle a half-game behind idle Oakland in the American League Wild Card race.

Seattle and Toronto play again tonight at 7:10 with Marco Gonzalez facing the Blue Jay’s Ryan Borucki.
