Wenatchee police say a Friday evening crash involving a suspected drunk driver could have been prevented. Only minor injuries resulted in the single-vehicle accident. Police described the incident on the Department’s Facebook page.
Police say it happened shortly after 7 pm. The driver was headed up Orondo Street and reportedly failed to make the left turn onto Okanogan Avenue. While attempting the turn, the vehicle went up onto the sidewalk and struck a city lamp pole, ripping the passenger front wheel and suspension off the SUV and putting it on its roof.
The driver sustained only minor injuries and was booked into jail for DUI.
Police say in the Facebook post, “This could have been a tragic event for the driver or anyone on the sidewalk during this incident. If you plan on drinking, please have a plan to get home that does not involve you behind the wheel.”
