Waterville mayor race will get an automatic recount

The primary election in Douglas County was certified on Tuesday but one race will need a recount.

The race to be the second candidate for Waterville mayor is too close to call.

In Waterville the two mayoral candidates seeking the second position on the November ballot remain in a virtual tie.

Auditor Thad Duvall has scheduled a recount next Wednesday to decide who will run against top vote-getter Jill Daling Thompson.

Loyd Smith’s one vote lead over Charles Driver requires an automatic recount under state law.
