Vantage Wildfire Forces Closure of I-90


We’re waking up this morning to reports of a major brush fire in the Vantage area. The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Department reports the wind-whipped wildfire threatens homes and a popular State Park.

The fire was burning on the south side of I-90 had made it to Huntzinger Rd in the Vantage area. A Level 3 evacuation advisory is in effect for residents within 1 mile south of I-90 on Huntzinger Rd. Wanapum State Park is in a Level 2 advisory. People camping will need to shelter in place as Huntzinger Rd is currently impassable. The Red Cross has established an emergency shelter at the George Community Hall.

I-90 is CLOSED eastbound at Kittitas and westbound just east of Vantage. There is no estimate for reopening and no detours. Pleas avoid the area.
