WINTHROP- An iconic springtime trail in the Methow is being considered for adoption by the U.S. Forest Service.
The Buck Mountain Trail is known by bikers, horseback riders and trail runners as an experience with breathtaking views and wildflowers, but it is not currently considered a National Forest System Trail. That could change as the Forest Service is seeking input on a proposal to adopts and make improvements to the trail.
Just north of Winthrop, the trail improvements would increase sustainability and minimize impacts of visitor use according to the Forest Service. Specifically, five miles of trail work to reconstruct a portion of an old horse trail is proposed with work slated for this summer if approved. Comments will be accepted until May 2nd.
