LEAVENWORTH — A mental health nonprofit in Leavenworth earned a windfall from the owners of Stevens Pass Ski Area.

Upper Valley Cares is one of 18 behavioral health agencies to share $2.8 million in donations from the Katz Amsterdam Charitable Trust, established by the owners of Vail Resorts. UVCares says it will use its $50,000 gift as seed capital to establish a free health clinic and counseling.

UVCares works with Cascade Medical Center for clients in Leavenworth, Lake Wenatchee, Peshastin and other Upper Valley communities. The grants are targeted at communities where Vail Resorts operates its ski businesses, in British Columbia, Washington, California, Utah, Colorado, Vermont and New Hampshire.

“We are very grateful for the generous grant from Rob Katz and Elana Amsterdam,” said Becki Subido, board president of UVCares. “With this support, UVCares will work to address the very important need for mental health services in the Upper Valley communities by opening a free mental health clinic, available to the full community.”
