Two State Titlists so far for area athletes


We’re down to the final two days of the spring sports season in the State of Washington and have several state titlists so far. Let’s first take a look at some of the results we have in so far on the Les Schwab Scoreboard…

State 4A Track and Field Scoreboard

At the 4A Track and Field Championships in Tacoma, Isaac Wellborn took 3rd in the High Jump. Wenatchee’s Jordan Vanassche was 2nd in the Javelin. And The Panther’s Elizabeth Ferrell took 6th in the Triple Jump.

State 1A Track and Field Scoreboard

At the 1A meet in Cheney, Cascade’s Julia Armstrong is a State Champion in the Pole Vault while Chelan’s Ellie Collins was second. Cashmere’s Rob McManus won the State Championship in the 16-hundred meter run. Cascade’s Landon Davies took 5th in the 1600 meter run.

State 1B/2B Track and Field Scoreboard

At the 1B/2B meet in Cheney, Waterville-Mansfield’s Alex Poppie took second in the Triple Jump. And Entiat’s Drew Duncan was 6th in the 1600 Meter Run.

State 1-A Baseball Scoreboard

Chelan will not play for the state title tomorrow. The Goats fell to University Prep today 5-nothing in the State 1-A Semifinals. Chelan will play tomorrow morning at 10 for 3rd or 4th against the loser of today’s other semifinal between Seattle Christian and Colville.

State 2B Softball Scoreboard

Brewster is in the loser’s bracket of the State 2B Softball Tournament in Yakima. The Bears fell to Chewelah this morning 13-to-7. Brewster was scheduled to play Liberty Christian early after they fell to Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 17-2 earlier today.

Here’s what we still have on tap for WIAA State Championships…

State 2B Baseball Schedule

Brewster has a 7 o’clock date tonight with Asotin in the State 2B Tournament in Centralia. Prior to that at 4, it’s Rainier and Kalama in the other semifinal.

The losers of today’s games play for 3rd or 4th tomorrow at 10am. The winners will play for the State 2B Championship tomorrow afternoon at 1 o’clock.

State 4A Softball Schedule

Spokane is the host for the State 4A Softball Championships today and tomorrow. Moses Lake’s first game was against Redmond earlier today. They have had some weather issues in Spokane, so it could impact the schedule for the rest of the day today.

State Track and Field Schedule

The State Track and Field Championships continue today and tomorrow with the 4A meet in Tacoma and the 1B/2B/1A meet in Cheney.

State 4A Tennis Scoreboard/Schedule

State Tennis gets underway today with the 4A Championships being played in Richland and Hanford. Wenatchee’s doubles pair of John Thrapp and Max Yount lost a grueling match this morning 5-7, 6-1, 4-6 and will play in the consolation bracket. The Panther’s Chloe Andrewjeski advanced with a 7-6, 6-3 win.

State 1B/2B/1A Tennis Scoreboard/Schedule

The 1B/2B/1A Tennis Championships are in Yakima with 14 competitors representing Chelan, Cashmere and Cascade.

Chelan’s Wyatt Habich lost 3-6, 1-6 and is in the consolation bracket. His teammate Tobin Wier is also in the consolation bracket after falling 0-6, 0-6. Cashmere’s Kane Andruss also fell this morning 2-6, 0-6 and is in the consolation bracket. The doubles pair of Ryan Cooper and Huber Farias of Cashmere advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

On the girl’s side, Chelan’s Emma McLaren advanced with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Cascade’s Molly Wiser also advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. The Kodiak’s Dorothy Espinosa also got into the winner’s bracket wih a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory. Cashmere’s Kert sisters, Aleah and Lauren, had not trouble with their first match, winning 6-1, 6-0. Cascade’s duo of Stella Johnson and Megan Evans aso advanced with a 6-3, 6-1 win. Chelan’s Abby Martin and Bella Gatzemeier are in the consolation bracket after falling this morning 2-6, 6-7.

Weekend Sports Schedule

The annual Sterling Invite Girls Softball Tournament runs today through Monday on softball diamonds throughout the valley. 49 teams are participating in this year’s tournament, so be on the lookout for the girls, families and coaches at various restaurants throughout the valley this weekend.

The Wenatchee Wild is hosting its annual Tryout Camp today through Sunday at the Town Toyota Center. If you want to get a taste of what will be the 2019-2020 Wenatchee Wild, head to the TTC for a look.

And there will be plenty of horse-trailers in tow heading to Appleatchee today for the first of four days of their Memorial Weekend Roping event.

The visiting Horsemen lead the American West Conference with a 6-and-oh record while Wenatchee Valley is 3rd at 2-and-4. The game will kick off at 7 o’clock Saturday night at the Town Toyota Center.

The Mariners are in Oakland to begin a three-game, weekend series with the Athletics…

Seattle has slipped to 23-and-29 on the season and will be trying to snap a three-game losing streak tonight. Oakland has won 7 of its last 10 games to climb to .500, good enough for 3rd in the A-L West.

Wade LeBlanc will be on the mound tonight, coming back from being blown up by Minnesota in his first outing since missing 5-weeks with an oblique strain. Seattle batters will face Oakland’s Daniel Mengden, who is 1-and-1 with a 3.65 ERA.

First pitch tonight is at 7:07.

Houston’s lead in West slips

There were only a couple games in the American League West last night as we check the Les Schwab Scoreboard…

Minnesota hit EIGHT (8) home runs, including two each by Jonathan Schoop and Miguel Sano in a 16-7 shelling of the Angels.

Lucas Giolito pitched a complete-game, 4-hit shutout of Houston as the White Sox won 4-nothing.
