Two people were killed and 12 others injured Sunday afternoon in a three-vehicle wreck Sunday afternoon on Highway 97 about four miles north of Orondo.

According to the Washington State Patrol, shortly before 1:15 p.m. a Chevrolet AstroVan driving south crossed the centerline and struck
a Ford F150 pickup drivers-side-to drivers-side.

The driver of the van, 29 year-old Luis Florespinzon of Mexico and a passenger, 31 year-old Luis Leveronrodriguez of Seattle, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Six other passengers in the van were transported to Central Washington Hospital as were the two occupants of the pickup and three occupants of a GMC Sierra that collided with the Ford pickup.

A camper being towed by the Ford truck and a boat being towed by the Sierra both became detached as a result of the accident.  Of the eight occupants of the van, only two – including the driver – were wearing seatbelts.

The accident blocked the highway for several hours, forcing traffic between Wenatchee and Chelan onto Highway 97A, where vehicles needed to take a detour around closed Knapps Hill Tunnel.
