Two homes evacuated during Sunday evening fire in South Wenatchee

Two homes in South Wenatchee were briefly evacuated late Sunday evening during a grass and debris fire.

Chelan County Fire District 1 public information officer Kay McKellar said the fire at Chapman Road and Beuzer Street was reported by numerous people at 10:23 p.m.

Law enforcement went door-to-door in the neighborhood advising residents of the fire.

The fire scorched about a half acre before it ran into an area that was already burned in another fire about a month ago, McKellar said.

The fire was under control at 11 p.m. but fire crews remained on the scene until about 2 a.m.

The blaze briefly burned bright in the evening sky, leading people from throughout the Wenatchee Valley to call in, McKellar said.

Douglas County Fire District 2 crews also responded.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
