As had been feared, roads to trailheads in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest were clogged with vehicles over the weekend as people headed to the hills to view the fall colors.

The Forest Service said especially bad was Rainy Creek Road off Highway 2 west of Leavenworth.

Traffic was backed up for more than a mile on the road with numerous vehicles double parked and angry drivers trying to get up or down the road on what was barely one lane of travel.

The Forest Service said several hikers had to spend significant time directing traffic.
