Washington state will pay you to turn in your gun bump stocks before a federal law banning the devices kicks in March 26.

Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Washington State Patrol offices at 2822 Euclid Avenue in Wenatchee, people can turn in up to five of the devices.

They then will receive a check in the mail for $150 for each.

Bump stocks are devices that attach to semi-automatic rifles enabling them to fire more rapidly. They came under scrutiny after they were used by the shooter in the 2017 Las Vegas massacre that left 58 people dead.

The buy-back program was given $150,000 by the Legislature this session and will end early if the money runs out. The Legislature banned bump stocks in 2018 and created the buyback program but did not provide funding for it.

Thursday, Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bill approved by the House and Senate that allocated the $150,000.

There will be eight buy-back locations throughout the state Sunday and Monday, and another eight March 24-25.

The nearest buyback location to Wenatchee in the second round will be in Ellensburg. To participate, you must be a Washington resident with a valid ID.

Bump stocks also can be turned into the federal Bureau of Alcohol Tocacco, Firearms and Explosives or other law enforcement agencies where people will be given a receipt they can take to the Washington State Patrol buyback programs.
