Suspect who taunted police on social media won’t get his bail reduced

A judge refused to lower bail Monday for a suspect who taunted police on social media while they sought him on charges of rape and unlawful imprisonment.

David Ernesto Lopez, 25, also called David Rodriguez, had asked to be released on his own recognizance while he awaits a trial scheduled for January.

But Chelan County Superior Court Judge Travis Brandt said the $150,000 bail required for Lopez to be released from the Chelan County jail is appropriate to the charges.

Last February, when Wenatchee police put out a Facebook post asking for information on Lopez’s whereabouts, he allegedly replied with a comment, telling them to focus on, “the real criminals.”

He was arrested five days later.
