Sunnyside’s win determines Wenatchee soccer future

Sunnyside’s win has now set the scene for Friday’s Big 9 District Play-in soccer matches…

Sunnyside settled it by downing Eisenhower last night 5-1 in the final game of the Big 9 regular season. So that means the Grizzlies are the #2 seed behind West Valley. Wenatchee is the #3 seed and Eastmont the #4 seed.

The Panthers will host Moses Lake in a play-in game Friday night at 6 while the Wildcats will host Davis in the other play-in game, also at 6 o’clock. The winners will advance to play the first round of the district tournament Tuesday at West Valley and Sunnyside. The loser’s season is over.

The Wenatchee Valley Thunder play host to the Richland Bombers tonight at Lee Bofto Field at the Apple Bowl. Richland comes in just a half-game ahead of Wenatchee in the standings. A win would make the Thunder’s record 9-and-1 and drop Richland to 8-and-1, a virtual tie. In order to win the regular season title outright and home field advantage in the playoffs, Wenatchee needs to win by three points tonight. Faceoff is at 7 o’clock.

The Wenatchee boys and girls tennis teams are at West Valley today at 3 o’clock. The Panthers are in first place, just ahead of the Rams in Big 9 boys and girls play. Victories by both today would secure the regular season titles in league.

Also today, Eastmont hosts Moses Lake at 3. Omak’s at Cashmere and Cascade’s on the road at Ellensburg at 4 o’clock.

Gonzales and Mariners shelled by Cubs 11-0

The Mariners slide continues as Marco Gonzales had his worst outing in Seattle, lasting just an inning and two-thirds as Chicago won 11-nothing…

Cubs beat Mariners 11-0

Gonzales was shelled for 6-runs on 5-hits before exiting in the second inning, walking 3 and striking out 2. Meanwhile, Cub pitching including starter Jon Lester allowed Seattle just one hit…FOR THE DAY! Ryon Healy’s 1-out single in the second was the only offense for the Mariners, whose losing streak has hit four.

Seattle has a travel day today before beginning a weekend series in Cleveland tomorrow at 4:10 as Yusei Kikuchi faces Shane Bieber.
