Stevens Pass takes brunt of latest snow in the passes

Chelan County Public Works photo Contractors working on the Yodelin Creek Project near the summit of Stevens Pass had to deal with a snowstorm today.

Yes, it’s early October, but Snoqualmie and Stevens passes were a snowy trek for drivers this morning.

About 8 inches of snow fell in some places on Stevens and traction tires were required for much of the morning.

And at about 10 a.m. a stuck semi blocked the eastbound lanes.

Eventually, chains were required for all large rigs.

Though the highway had improved considerably by 1 p.m., traction tires were still required.

Unsurprisingly, a Chelan County project near the summit was disrupted by the snowstorm.

A contractor is replacing two damaged culverts and installing a single-span bridge on Stevens Road.
