Sox top Sweets with run in 9th

There were two pitcher’s duals going on simultaneously at extreme edges of the state last night. We’ll get to the one in Seattle in a moment, first we’ll head to Walla Walla. The Wenatchee AppleSox edged the Walla Walla Sweets 1-nothing to take two of three in the series last night. It was a night to strike, or be struck, as we hear from the “Voice” of the AppleSox, Joel Norman…

AppleSox host Pippins tonight on NCWLIFE Channel

As Joel Mentioned, the AppleSox return home tonight for a huge series against the Yakima Valley Pippins at Paul Thomas, Sr. Stadium and we’ll have it LIVE on the NCWLIFE Channel. Eric Granstrom will have the play-by-play beginning at 6:30 with the pregame.

West Coast League Scoreboard

In other West Coast League action Thursday, at Civic Field in Port Angeles, Bryce Matthews’ 3-run home run highlighted a 4-run 5th inning for the Lefties to beat Ridgefield 9-8. Wes Chambers went deep for Ridgefield, who saw their 6-game winning streak snapped.

At Story Field, Michael Benz and three other pitchers combined on a 5-hit shutout of Portland in Cowlitz’s 2-nothing win.

At Yakima County Stadium, the Pippins completed a 3-game sweep of Bend with an 8-4 victory. The bottom of the order did the damage for Yakima Valley as Alex Shanks, Travis Holder and Aaron Plante each had 2-hits and combined for 5-RBI’s.

West Coast League Standings

As we look at the standings heading into the weekend, Wenatchee has a chance, with a sweep, to tie Yakima Valley atop the North Division. Since the Pippins won the 1st half title and if they win the second half as well, the team in the division with the 2nd-best overall record for the entire season would be the wild card team in the playoffs.

West Coast League North Division Standings

Right now, Bellingham has the second-best overall record in the North Division. Wenatchee and Walla Walla are 1-and-a-half games back of the Bells. Of course, this only matters if Yakima Valley repeats as champions of the 2nd half.

West Coast League Schedule

Here’s what’s on the schedule across the league tonight besides Yakima Valley at Wenatchee. Cowlitz visits Port Angeles. Bellingham hosts Ridgefield. Corvallis has a non-league game after getting the week off against Medford. And Walla Walla hosts Bend tonight at 7:05.
