Mariners fall to Houston in 10-innings 5-4

Such was the case last night in Houston where the bullpen surrendered a game-tying, 2-run home run in the 9th and then a walk-off, ground-rule double in the 10th as the Astros beat Seattle 4-to-3.

Things looked good midway through the contest as J.P. Crawford tied the game with a hit in the 5th…

Kyle Seager would give Seattle the lead with his career-best 34th home run in the 6th…

Seattle added another run in the 9th on Luis Torrens’ RBI-single and led it 4-2 heading into Houston’s last at-bat. That’s when Paul Sewald ran into trouble…

Then in the 10th, Houston walked off on a ground-rule double by Alex Correa…

Yohan Ramirez took the loss in surrendering the walk-off double. Seattle and Houston turn around and play the final of the three-game series this morning at 11:10 when Taylor Anderson faces José Urquidy.

American League West Scoreboard

Also in the American League West last night, Jason Martin’s 2-run single highlighted a 3-run 4th inning and that’s all Texas would need to beat Arizona 3-1.

Yoán Moncada and Leury García each had 3-hits as the White Sox powered past the A’s 6-to-3.

Packy Naughton and three relievers combined on a 4-hits shutout of San Diego as the Angels won 4-nothing.

Houston’s lead in the West is 6-and-a-half games over Seattle.

American League Wild Card Race

Toronto’s Alejandro Kirk homered twice as the Blue Jays won their 6th straight, a 5-1 victory over the Yankees.

Two former Mariners did the damage for Tampa Bay in the Rays’ 12-7 win in Boston. Mike Zunino drove in 4-runs while Nelson Cruz hit two home runs as Tampa has now scored 39-runs in their last four games.

New York remains a half-game ahead of Boston in the Wild Card Race. Toronto is 2-games back while the Mariners remain 3-games out.
