Sewage spill into Moses Lake prompts no-contact advisory

People are being advised to avoid contact with the water in Moses Lake for at least the next seven days.

Sewage from a leaking pipe spilled into the lake Wednesday night.

The Grant County Health District advisory means the public should not swim, fish or have contact with the water in the affected area. [

The spill is in the Knolls Vista area.

The leaking sewage pipe was first reported at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday by a resident in the 300 block of Northshore Drive.

City employees reported finding a baseball-sized hole in the side of the older pipe and had it capped by 11:30 p.m.

But this marked the second time in two years that pipe has been repaired.

The amount of sewage that spilled into the lake is unclear but the no-contact area extends all the way to Blue Heron Park.

A toxic algae outbreak in July lead to another advisory that’s still in effect.

But a boat parade scheduled for the lake Saturday will still go, organizers said.
