Sen. Hawkins testifies on residential water wells

OLYMPIA- The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water Trade and Economic Development held a hearing on Senate Bill 5024 on Tuesday, which will affect residential water wells.

The legislation is in response to the State Supreme Court’s recent “Hurst ruling” that forces counties to make sure there’s enough available water before issuing permits for new housing developments.

Senator Brad Hawkins read a statement from Republican Senator Judy Warnick of Moses Lake who sponsored one of the bills…

Opponents of the bill say many basins across Washington are already over-appropriated, and permit-exempt wells harming pacific salmon.
