NCW Teams Fall in Early Play Friday at State

WENATCHEE, WA – As of 2 o’clock this afternoon, every North Central Washington team playing at State Baseball and Softball Tournaments lost today.  The latest to fall was the Wenatchee baseball team.

The Wenatchee Panther’s couldn’t quite hang on today in its State 4A Baseball semifinal…
Skyview scored 3-runs in the top of the 7th to overcome a 1-0 deficit and went on to defeat Wenatchee 3-1 at Pasco’s GESA Stadium. The Panthers will play Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. against Federal Way for 3rd or 4th. Richland defeated Federal Way 11-0 to advance to tomorrow afternoon’s Championship game at 4 o’clock.

Moses Lake at Eastmont Fall at State Softball

Turning to the State 4A Softball Championships at Spokane’s Dwight-Markel Field…
The double-elimination tournament began this morning at with Big 9 Champion Moses Lake Chiefs falling to Camas 12-1. Big 9 #2 team, Eastmont, was also on the losing side today, falling to Central Valley 7-4. Both teams will have to come back through the consolation bracket.

The Cascade Lady Kodiaks are in the Tri-Cities for the State 1A Softball Tournament at Richland’s Columbia Playfields…
And things didn’t go well for Cascade this morning, falling in their first-round game to Elma 15-3. They’re facing Bellevue Christian in the consolation bracket.

Liberty Bell and Brewster represent North Central Washington teams at the State 2B Tournament in Yakima’s Gateway Complex…
The Lady Lions lost to Northwest Christian this morning 9-4. Meanwhile, the Bears went into extra innings before calling to Onalaska 5-4. Liberty Bell and Brewster are now in the consolation bracket.

Cashmere and Brewster Have High Hopes in Baseball

Cashmere is in familiar territory at the State 1A Tournament at County Stadium in Yakima…
The Bulldogs face King’s Way Christian in the semifinals today at 4 o’clock. The other semifinal has Cedar Park Christian taking on Freeman at 7. The playoff for 3rd and 4th is tomorrow at 1 while the Championship game will take place at 7pm.

Brewster is hoping to bring home some hardware at the State 2B Tournament at Centralia’s Wheeler Field this weekend…
The Bears face Adna in one of today’s semifinal games at 7 tonight. The other features Tri-Cities Prep and Kalama at 4 o’clock. Today’s losers play for 3rd and 4th tomorrow morning at 10 while the winners play for the State Title tomorrow afternoon at 1.

Eastmont Soccer Faces Pasco in State Soccer Semi’s

The WIAA State Championships for high schools are in full-swing…
We’ll begin with the State 4A Soccer Championships at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup. That’s where the Eastmont Wildcats will play in a semifinal game today against Pasco at 6 tonight. The other semifinal pits Skyline against Sumner at 8. The losers will play for 3rd and 4th tomorrow at Noon. The winners will play for the Championship tomorrow at 5pm.

Local tennis players begin play at the WIAA State Tennis Championships today in the Tri-Cities and Yakima…
The 4A Tournament is at Richland’s Columbia Basin Racquet Club while the 1A Tournament is at the Yakima Tennis Club. The two-day events will wrap up tomorrow.

And the State Track & Field Championships continue today and conclude tomorrow…
The 2A/3A/4A meet is at Mount Tahoma Stadium at Kent-Meridian High School while the 1B/2B/1A meet is at Eastern Washington University in Cheney. Go to to follow all the action.

Mariners Begin 10-Games Home Stand Against Twins

The Mariners had their 5-game winning streak snapped in Oakland Thursday as the A’s hung on to win 4-3…
Felix Hernandez got roughed up for four runs in the 1st inning, but he and three relievers retired 21 of the next 22 batters the rest of the game. Jean Segura went 3-for-4 with a run and Kyle Seager delivered an RBI double in the 8th. The Mariners return home to begin a ten-game home stand tonight with the first of three against the Twins as James Paxton faces Fernando Romero at 7:10.
