WENATCHEE- Pending the investigation into the recent death of 40-year-old Eddie Bromiley, the Chelan PUD has shut down one of the spillway gates at Rock Island Dam.
Bromley was struck and fatally injured by a piece of steel during crane testing on the dam’s spillway on June 13th. The state Department of Labor and Industries opened an investigation just after the accident and the PUD also is conducting an investigation, which is being handled by an outside expert, and has notified federal dam regulators about the accident.
By law, Labor and Industries have six calendar months to complete an investigation. Rock Island Dam has 31 spillway gates, 19 generators and is the oldest dam on the Columbia River.
