Restitution ordered in fatal December apartment shooting

WENATCHEE — Two men who pleaded to manslaughter for fatally shooting a third in a Wenatchee apartment last year now must pay restitution in his death.

Shane Earl Hagen, 48, and Brendyn Cain Ripper, 26, exchanged gunfire Dec. 23 with Jesus Manuel Garcia of Toppenish, leaving Garcia dead and Hagen wounded. On Monday, a Chelan County judge said the men owe about $6,600 each to the Washington Crime Victims Compensation Fund.

Hagen and Ripper brought handguns when they went to the Idaho Street apartment, allegedly to retrieve items belonging to Hagen’s daughter. All three men fired shots in the altercation, with Ripper fatally wounding Garcia.

Ripper is serving an eight-year sentence; Hagen was sentenced to two and a half years.
