WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee Valley housing shortage is having an unexpected consequence: Fewer graduate students are able to take on jobs and study opportunities here.
That’s the finding of a new report by the Bridge Research and Innovation District, a working group looking at regional growth. Ten educational institutions and employers said right now, they teach or employ an average of 191 students in advanced degree programs each year … but are only able to provide housing for 37 of them. The rest must fend for themselves.
The report found that adequate housing in the community could raise the number of advanced students employed and studying in the valley annually to as many as 263.
