Rash of earthquakes recorded near Mount St. Helens


MORTON-The ground has been shaking around Mt St. Helens over the last couple days. A rash of small earthquakes have been recorded with the largest temblor registered at 3.9 on the Seismic scale. The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network reports it struck around 12:30 a.m. A magnitude 2.7 quake was recorded just minutes later.

Minor shaking was recorded in the hours after. The latest was a magnitude 1.1 that occurred just before 4 a.m.

People as far as Mountlake Terrace reported feeling the magnitude 3.9 earthquake, according to the USGS’ response page. Only two people in Morton — about 22 miles from the activity — reported feeling the shaking.
