Rams Advance to Championship, Mariners Sweep

Rams Reach Championship

Wenatchee Valley Rams Advance to Title

WENATCHEE, WA – The Wenatchee Valley Rams are one step closer to a championship…AGAIN…
The Rams hosted the Spokane Wolfpack last Saturday at Lee Bofto Field at the Apple Bowl in the Western Washington Football Alliance League semifinals. And there was little doubt the home team had plans of playing another day.

Wenatchee Valley’s offense went up and down the field while the defense pitched yet another shutout as the Rams won 52-to-nothing. The Rams will take on the Tri-City Rage in the championship game this Saturday at Renton Stadium with kickoff at 5 o’clock.

Mariners Complete 4-Game Sweep of Houston

Just about the time it looked like the Mariners were going to fade into the mid-summer heat, they come back and sweep the defending World Series Champion Houston Astros in the 4-game series…
The finale at Minute Maid Park Sunday was a 4-3, 10-inning decision that brought Seattle within 4-games of the division leader, and just a game-and-a-half back of Oakland for the final Wild Card spot in the American League. But it wasn’t easy.

The Mariners squandered a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 8th as the Astros plated three runs to take the lead. Then, with two outs in the top of the 9th, Ryon Healy smacked a solo home run to left field to tie it.

In the top of the 10th, Dee Gordon led off with a pinch-hit single. Then, as Gordon broke for second base, Mitch Haniger slashed a double down the left field line that scored Gordon with what proved to be the game-winning run. And, even though Edwin Diaz had saved three games in a row, came on in the bottom of the 10th to earn his 46th save.

Manager Scott Servais said it was a rare opportunity on the road…

Seattle now heads to Oakland for the first of three against the A’s as Marco Gonzales faces Sean Manaea (mun-AY-uh) at 7:05.

Seattle Now 1.5-Games Back of Athletics

To the Les Schwab Scoreboard to see what else happened in the American League West on Sunday…
Jed Lowrie’s 2-run home run highlighted a 4-run 4th inning as Oakland held on to beat the Angels 8-7. The Athletics took two of three from Los Angeles in the weekend series.

Didi Gregorius hit a two-run home run to back CC Sabathia’s 6-innings of 1-hit, scoreless ball to help New York beat Texas 7-2. The Yankees took three of four in the weekend series.

So there you see the standings, Houston’s lead in the West has shrunk to 2-and-a-half games over Oakland and just four over the Mariners.

The Seattle Seahawks continue training camp in Renton, preparing for their upcoming game against the Chargers. Now that they have one game in the books, it’s time for the rookies to show what they’ve learned. Such is the case for rookie linebacker Shaquem Griffin…

Head Coach Pete Carroll says Griffin has a lot of room for improvement, but he liked the basic fundamentals that he saw…

Seattle plays in Carson, California, just outside of Los Angeles, Saturday night against the Chargers with kickoff set for 7 o’clock.
