Preparations for NCW Sports Awards

June 6th Event Will Feature NBA Player Joey Harris

(Wenatchee, WA)…Wenatchee North Rotary and Wenatchee Valley College are working on the 47th NCW Sports Awards and Hall of Fame Ceremony coming up in June. WVC College Athletic Director Greg Franz says it’s been a good relationship going back to 2015.  “Wenatchee Valley College Athletics partnered with Wenatchee North Rotary starting with speakers like Kenny Mayne and last year with Jake Locker to really upscale the event to the Town Toyota Center with 500 attendees,” said Franz.

Athletes and teams from throughout North Central Washington are recognized for individual and team accomplishments in the past school year whether in high school or college.  Franz says they also added the Wenatchee Valley College Hall of Fame to the event as well as an award recognizing the WVC Athlete of the Year.  Franz says “it is now a combined fundraiser for Wenatchee Valley College athletic scholarships as well as Wenatchee North Rotary scholarships.”

The list of recipients in 47 years is significant and Franz says it means a lot to those who were recognized.  “Over the years this is a big deal…there’s a source of pride when you talk about some of the awards that they’ve accumulated over the years through college and high school.  Especially looking back, it’s a way for communities to be recognized through their athletic programs,” said Franz.

The Awards night will be June 6th at the Town Toyota Center with Chelan graduate and current NBA player Joey Harris as the keynote speaker.  Franz says he’s very excited to hear Harris’ message.  “To be in the NBA is beyond comprehension for most North Central Washington athletes.  But the other thing we look for in these speakers…is the values, the family values.  The value of hard work, etc.  So We’re excited to have Joey represent North Central Washington Sports Awards this year.
