Widespread power outage leads to school being cancelled in Waterville

School was cancelled in Waterville Monday after a widespread power outage in the area.

Douglas County PUD reported at 8:30 a.m. that 1,200 customers in the Waterville area were still without power.

“Crews found a faulty terminator outside the substation serving the area. A terminator is the point where the underground lines transition to overhead lines. Expect about another 2 hours for the fix and restoration of power,” the PUD said.

The school district announced a two-hour delay just before 6:30 a.m., and by 7:30 a.m. PUD crews had not yet discovered the cause of the outage which covers much of the Waterville Plateau.

The Waterville School District then said they hoped to start classes at 10:45 a.m. but with uncertainty remaining about when power would be restored, just before 9:30 a.m. school was called off for the day.
