The idea of some sort of merger or consolidation between the ports of Douglas and Chelan counties, is still in an exploratory stage, Port of Chelan Commissioner Rory Turner told NCWLIFE’s Steve Hair Wednesday. Turner said the idea was first raised by a facilitator working with an airport task force that was formed after the Douglas port said it could no longer meet its financial obligations for joint funding of Pangborn International Airport. Turner said the airport currently is losing about $300,000 dollars a year. The words used by the facilitator were “functional consolidation,” Turner said.
Turner also said if both ports agree that functional consolidation is the way to go, the three-member commissions from each port would likely hold joint meetings for decision-making.
