WENATCHEE — A Wenatchee man arrested last month on suspicion of possessing child pornography is now believed to have recorded himself in the act of molesting children at least 21 times.

Wenatchee police on Thursday rearrested Jose Antonio Mendoza, 31, who was out of jail on $15,000 bond. Investigators say while reviewing his alleged collection of explicit images on his computer and hard drives, they found evidence that Mendoza sexually abused children and made photos and videos of the acts.

Mendoza allegedly victimized some of the children while they slept.

Mendoza remained jailed and scheduled to appear Friday afternoon in Chelan County Superior Court. Police said they’ll ask prosecutors to add 21 counts of second-degree child molestation to the existing charges against him.
