Pitch by committee collapses in Mariners 5-3 loss to Orioles

Baltimore tops Seattle 5-3

Baltimore provided a filibuster to Seattle’s pitch-by-committee effort last night, scoring 5-runs in the 8th inning to beat the Mariners 5-3. Due to several injuries with Seattle’s starters, the Mariners had to use its bullpen to share the load Monday. Five pitchers held the Orioles in check through seven innings, allowing just 4-hits and striking out 7. Then came the forgetting 8th…

Most of the damage was done off of reliever Anthony Misiewicz, who saw his record fall to 2-and-1 with the loss.
Seattle only managed three hits in the game, but two of them were home runs by Tom Murphy and Mitch Haniger…

Manager Scott Servais was pleased overall with the performance of his pitching staff but would certainly like to see more offense…

Seattle and Baltimore play again tonight at 7:10 with Justin Dunn facing Jorge López.

American League West Scoreboard

Checking the American League West scoreboard from Monday, Texas’ comeback bid falls short in the 9th after a 2-run homer by Joey Gallo, the Rangers fall to the Twins 6-5.

Manuel Margot hit a two-run homer and drove in 3 to lead Tampa Bay past the Angels 7-3. Shohei Ohtani was 2-for-4 for Los Angeles, hitting a double and his 9th homer of the season.

Stephen Piscotti and Ramón Laureano each hit 2-run home runs in Oakland’s 5-4 win over Toronto.

Seattle is now tied with idle Houston in second place in the A-L West, 2-games behind Oakland. The Angels are 3-and-a-half games back while Texas sits in last place, 5-games out.
