Pine Canyon on Highway 2 will remain closed for up to six more weeks as work continues on a massive rock slide, the Washington Department of Transportation said Thursday.
The highway between Orondo and Waterville has been closed since the Tuesday slide at Milepost 144.
The rock slide dropped about 300 yards of material, said Lauren Loebsack of WSDOT.
“It also exposed a boulder about the size of a truck that’s hanging over the highway and pulled away some netting ,” she said. “That work to remove the boulder and repair the netting will require a contractor and in the meantime it is not safe for the public to go through there.”
Drivers are being detoured to either Badger Canyon or McNeil Canyon.
The Washington State Patrol said it will be enforcing the closure.
