A pickup and semi collided on Highway 17 about eight miles south of Moses Lake Wednesday night, seriously injuring driver of the pickup.
The Washington State Patrol said the 1993 Nissan pickup being driven by Jose Chama Erivas, 51, of Othello, was traveling south about 8:40 p.m. when it crossed the center line.
The semi, traveling north, unsuccessfully tried to swerve to avoid a collision but the pickup struck the side of the semi, Bryant said.
The pickup ended up in a ditch on the north side of the road.
Erivas was first taken to the hospital in Moses Lake, then airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
Bryant said just minutes prior to the crash the State Patrol had received a report of the pickup being driven erratically.
The WSP said charges are pending their investigation.
The highway was blocked for more than five hours while the scene was investigated cleared, with traffic diverted onto Road 6.
