Phillippi Fruit Fire was Accidental

Authorities have determined the cause of last Friday’s Phillippi Fruit fire was accidental. The blaze was ignited by burning apple syrup according to Douglas County Fire District Two’s Brian Brett.


According to a first responder, a sheriff arrived early on scene to find flames coming from the roof and window. Fire crews arrived on scene for an offensive attack early but quickly pulled back and went defensive.

Chelan Fire District 1, Douglas County Fire District 2 crews and various others from around the area responded to help knock down the blaze.

There are currently no known injuries and no one was believed to be inside the building. Fire crews are currently mopping up hotspots. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. An investigation will begin Saturday morning.

Fifth Street will be open to local traffic only, officials ask that residents stay clear of the area if possible as crews work to clean up.


UPDATE 9:45 p.m.-Firefighters are on the scene of an active fire on Fifth Street at Phillippi Fruit Co. Complex in Wenatchee.

Chelan PUD cut power to 660 customers around 9:30 p.m. and possibly more. #1 Canyon is closed and police have barricaded the streets.
