Paragliders soar through Chelan skies during competition

CHELAN – If you’re in the Chelan area this weekend, keep your eyes to the skies as the U.S. and Canadian Open Paragliding Competition runs until Saturday on the Chelan Butte.

131 pilots from around the world launch into the Chelan air to complete flying tasks over the duration of the competition. Tuesday’s events were called off due to high winds, and paragliders were expected to take to the sky today with warmer temperatures and a calmer breeze.

The competition is a pre-World Cup Event as paragliders compete in categories such as distance and time. Participants will land in the Chelan Falls Soccer Field throughout the competition.
