Panthers Down Moses Lake 3-1 in Baseball

WENATCHEE, WA – It was a battle for first place in the Big 9 baseball standings yesterday at Recreation Park as the Wenatchee Panthers hosted the Moses Lake Chiefs. In the early going, it looked like the Chiefs would wrestle away the top spot.  The visitors scored a run in the first while pitcher Vance Alvarado retired the first 8 batters he faced. So there you have it, quite a game as Wenatchee hangs on for the 3-1 win behind great relief pitching and timely hitting by Jared Rubash and Thomas Blakney. The Panthers claim first place all alone in the Big 9 standings and will play two more at Moses Lake on Friday.
Turning to the Les Schwab Prep Scoreboard…
Eastmont traveled to Sunnyside and picked up a 12-4 victory. Chelan blanked Omak 14-0. Okanogan had no trouble with Cascade and Waterville-Mansfield earned an 8-7 victory at home over Lake Roosevelt.

Big 9 Softball Lead Goes to Moses Lake with Chiefs’ Win

It was also a battle for first place in the Big 9 softball standings with Wenatchee at Moses Lake yesterday…
And the home standing Chiefs stood their ground, knocking off the Panthers 12-2. Eastmont won a high-scoring affair over Sunnyside at the Sterling Sports Complex 18-10. Pateros pounded Manson 16-1. Chelan got by Omak 13-5 and Cascade edged Okanogan 2-1.

Eastmont and Wenatchee Soccer Teams Win

In boys soccer on Tuesday…
Chelan edged Cashmere 2-1. It took overtime, but Nate Balauro scored the golden goal in the extra period for Eastmont as the Wildcats defeated Sunnyside 2-to-1. Wenatchee had no trouble dispatching Moses Lake by a final of 5-nil as Farrace Nasser scored two goals.

It was a busy day on the tennis courts Tuesday…
Davis swept Eastmont while Wenatchee swept Eisenhower. Cascade doubled up on Okanogan while Chelan swept Omak on the boy’s and girl’s side.

Former AppleSox Pitcher Gonzalez Helps Mariners Win

Former Wenatchee AppleSox pitcher Marco Gonzalez was stellar for the Seattle Mariners last night, helping to shut out the White Sox in Chicago 1-0…
Gonzalez went 6-innings, allowing no runs on 5-hits while striking out 8. Four relievers helped preserve the shutout while Edwin Diaz earned his 9th save by pitching a perfect 9th. Mitch Hanniger provided the only run Seattle would need in the 4th inning on an RBI single. Kyle Seager went 2-for-4 with a double.

Nelson Cruz and Mike Zunino Power Seattle Past ‘Sox

Then today, Seattle came from behind to edge Chicago 4-3…
Felix Hernandez surrendered a lead-off home run and a double and two runs in the first, but then settled down to allow just one more run in six innings to earn the victory. The Seattle offense got going in the 3rd as Jean Segura and Nelson Cruz hit RBI singles to tie the game at 2. Cruz delivered another RBI single in the 5th to re-tie the game at 3 and then Mike Zunino provided the game winning solo home run in the 6th. James Pazos and Juan Nicasio held the lead for Edwin Diaz, who struck out two of the three batters he faced in the 9th for his 10th save. Seattle now heads to Cleveland tomorrow for the first of four games with the Tribe as James Paxton faces Mike Cleavinger at 3:10.
