Palisades man convicted on 5 child molestation counts

WATERVILLE — A Douglas County jury on Monday convicted a 70-year-old Palisades man on multiple charges of child molestation.

After a two-day trial, the jury took five hours to find James William Cook Sr. guilty on two counts of first-degree child molestation, and three charges in the second degree.

Douglas County deputies arrested Cook in October 2018 after disclosures from two children, who said he molested them multiple times last year. He remained free on $100,000 bond after his arrest.

But Superior Court Judge Brian C. Huber ordered Cook back to the Okanogan County jail after the Monday verdict. He’ll be sentenced Dec. 23, when he could face more than seven years in prison on each count.
