Outdoor Bitcoin Mining Shipping Container Moratorium


WATERVILLE, WA.– Douglas County Commissioners yesterday approved a one year moratorium on the outdoor use of large shipping containers for bitcoin mining. Commissioner Dan Sutton says the ban only applies to stand-alone shipping containers . .


The Commissioners took action following a public hearing in Waterville Tuesday morning. Interim controls on the use of shipping containers was adopted in April. It was determined that the unregulated placement of cargo containers for cryptocurrency mining had created unanticipated and undesired visual impacts within the County’s industrial zoned areas.
