Opening of many hiking trails delayed by late snow

Late-season snow means many popular hiking trails in the region won’t be opening on schedule.

That includes Sage Hills Trails, which normally open March 31.

That opening has been delayed at least a week, according to the Chelan County PUD, which manages the trails with Chelan Douglas Land Trust.

The county will keep Horselake Road gated until at least April 5, and also has extended road closures for Burch Mountain, Oklahoma Gulch Road near Entiat and Mountain Home Road in Leavenworth, according to the Chelan County Public Works department.

The PUD cited muddy conditions and late greening of vegetation. The herds of mule deer in the foothills feed on the spring vegetation before before moving to higher ground.
